Out of the Frying Pan

Greg Steiner of Austin's award-winning Grape Vine Market joins us with his current Top 5 List. Greg will return in the weeks to come with more wine suggestions and advice.

If you think you're looking for love in all the wrong places, you may just be bringing along the wrong bottle of wine...
Top 5 Wines for a First Date

Note: the exact vintage of each of these wines isn't critical--Greg selected these particular wines because they're consistently high-quality.

1. Icardi Moscato D'Asti (about $15) This is the perfect sitting-by-the-fireplace or poolside wine to have with strawberries or if the date goes really well....

2. Oudinot Champagne (about $28) The elegance of true Champagne is perfectly expressed from this wonderful producer. And since this is a Champagne that is not as widely known, your date will never know that it costs less (but tastes better) than many of the big-name producers.

3. Quintarelli Amarone ($100 - $180) Yes, it's expensive, but it's the sexiest, most romantic red wine you will come across.

4. Seghesio Keyhole Ranch Pinot Noir (about $20) Big, voluptuous fruit that is easy to drink over conversation or with food.

5. Chateau Lafite Rothschild (the older the vintage, the better, $300) If you can't impress your date with your personality, then impress them with your wallet.

Greg Steiner, co-founder of Austin's renowned Grape Vine Market, is dedicated to making the world a better place through wine. If you get nervous when you step beyond Cabernet, Merlot, and Zinfandel, Greg will be there to hold your hand and walk you down the Barolo aisle.

Find Greg, a staggering wine, beer, and spirits selection, plus difficult-to-find gourmet food and a wide variety of wine-tasting classes, at Grape Vine Market.
