Cookie Mix in a Jar

(Chocolate Chip)

Who isn't short on both time and money during the holidays? Homemade gifts are quick and inexpensive, but always appreciated! Cookie Mix in a Jar takes about 5 minutes to assemble and at around $2 a jar, you can afford to include everyone on your Christmas list.

1 quart mason jar
1 1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts, if desired
1 cup (6 oz.) chocolate chips

Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a bowl and set aside. Layer the ingredients in a 1 quart mason jar making sure to pack each layer down as you go. Layer the ingredients in the following order, bottom to top: brown sugar, granulated sugar, nuts (if desired), chocolate chips, flour mixture. Wipe the lip of the jar and secure the top on tightly.

Attach the following instructions for the lucky recipient:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of unsalted butter, softened
1 large egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375°. Lightly grease 2 baking sheets. Using an electric mixer, cream the butter, egg and vanilla at high speed. Stir in the contents of the jar, mixing by hand, until all of the ingredients are combined. Drop in spoonfuls onto baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until browned around the edges. Cool on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Enjoy!
