Out of the Frying Pan

SLIPPERS ($6 - $10)

Fluffy new slippers--nothing's nicer when you've been on your feet all night. Pick a pair to suit your host's personality.
...10 hostess presents (under $10)... (continued)

BAR BOARD ($4 - $5) &
A BAG OF LEMONS
($3)

Snag a cheap little board and a mesh bag of lemons or limes to help out the bartender. You might even find a cheapie knife to throw in.

DISH CLOTHS ($4 - $10)

If you really want Brownie points, add a small bottle of dish soap and an offer of help with the dishes.
DISPOSABLE CAMERA
($7 - $10)

Bring a disposable camera and offer to snap plenty of pictures (your hostess might be too busy). Most drugstores carry cheaper store brands, too.

CHEESE ($5 - $10)
Intense Parmigiano-Reggiano, buttery brie, strong Stilton--whatever your taste, cheese is sure to please. Bring a chunk for the party and another to save for later.

FLOWERS ($4 - $10)
Cut flowers or potted (seasonal favs like poinsettias, chrysanthemums, rosemary abound) are sure to charm.
COFFEE & CREAM ($10)

Assure your host a good morning after. Not sure she has a grinder? Buy ground.

COCKTAIL SNACKS ($6 - $10)

Salty tidbits are the perfect complement to strong drinks. Bundle a can of mixed nuts with a jar of olives and a box of toothpicks.

BAR SUPPLIES ($4 - $10)

Cocktail napkins, swizzle sticks, toothpicks or cocktail spears, maraschino cherries, margarita salt--gather up an assortment.
OLIVE OIL ($7 - $10)

Instead of wine, why not bring a bottle of olive oil? Extra-virgin, of course, but beyond that, there are lots of choices. Pick a flavor or bottle suited to your hostess.
